Keep is getting easier to use on the web with new text formatting tools
Summary
- Google Keep’s web app now includes text formatting tools for bold, italicize, and underline.
- New features are rolling out to Google Workspace users first, but all users will eventually receive them.
- Keep’s updated web app brings it more in line with the Android app for creating organized notes.
Google Keep is pretty bare bones when it comes to note-taking, but that’s kind of the point of the app. There are plenty of options if you’re looking for something much more robust. Then again, Keep is continually updated, and recently added a button to easily start a text note in the Android app, and now the web app gets some love as Google rolls out formatting tools, something that has been desperately missing from the web app. Formatting options like bold, italicize, and underline text are currently rolling out to Workspace and individual users alike, ensuring Keep is that much more useful on the web.

Create an H2 like a pro in your own web notes
Google tends to roll out new features in waves, sometimes slowly, so there is no telling how quickly Keep’s new web app formatting options (via The Verge) will show up. Those of us at AP have checked, and so far, nobody has received the update, though Google does offer a slick GIF that showcases the new tools, which you can view directly above. For now it looks like the features are arriving for Google Workspace users on Rapid Release and Scheduled Release tracks, though Google does state all Workspace and regular Google account users will get the update, but no time frame is provided.
It’s good to see Keep’s web app gain features, ensuring the app remains viable in our browsers. So, if you regularly use Keep on the web, you’ll be able to create headings, bold text, italicized text, and even underlined text. These features assuredly make it easier to create organized and neatly laid-out notes when using Keep in your browser, bringing the web experience more in line with the Android app.
