Just yesterday, we reported on the latest update to the Nugget SparseRestore-based iPhone customization utility for macOS and Windows, noting that it introduced not only several new features, but also bug fixes and improvements.

But as it turns out, project lead developer LeminLimez wasn’t finished improving Nugget just yet, as they followed up with a second update Thursday afternoon in the form of version 4.2.1. LeminLimez announced the updated Nugget v4.2.1 in a post shared to social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In the post, the developer specifically noted that there are several bug fixes in this update and that it’s highly recommended that existing users upgrade to the newest build or that prospective users take advantage of the latest release.

Citing the change log, which is posted on the project’s GitHub page, Nugget v4.2.1 introduces the following changes over the previous release:

– Fix mobilegestalt tweaks failing to apply
– Fix skip setup applying on SparseRestore versions despite not requiring it
– Add a warning when applying mobilegestalt tweaks without a mobilegestalt file selected
– Minor optimizations to the tweak’s backend

LeminLimez once again warned that mobilegestalt tweaks do not and will not ever support iOS 18.2 or later. That said, anyone who expects to use these features is strongly advised to stay on whatever supported version they’re running.

The Nugget project supports iOS versions 17.0 through 18.2 developer beta 2 and can run on macOS and Windows-based machines. Users can plug their supported device in to their computer and open the Nugget application to begin applying hacks.

Nugget doesn’t require a jailbreak to use. Instead, it makes use of the SparseRestore exploit to write files outside of the intended restore location, such as mobilegestalt. By doing so, it’s possible to emulate functionality similar to certain jailbreak tweaks without actually jailbreaking. This is still considered a hack.

Because of the nature of the exploit being used and the way these hacks work, there is a slight risk of boot looping your device. With that in mind, only those who know what they’re doing should use Nugget, and it’s also strongly recommended that you back up your previous data beforehand.

Nugget is available as a free download from the developer’s GitHub page. You can also join the Cowabunga Discord channel to discuss the project and for any support you may need.
