DynamicNotLand jailbreak tweak disables the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro series devices when not in use
The Dynamic Island is something that first debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro series of handsets to replace the notch-based TrueDepth camera system that debuted with Face ID when Apple launched the iPhone X, and it’s designed to integrate all of the TrueDepth camera system into a blacked out region of the OLED display that integrates tightly with system animations and notifications to provide the illusion that it’s a part of the display.
But perhaps you’re more interested in claiming some of those unused pixels in between the TrueDepth camera system as opposed to keeping them blacked out when the Dynamic Island isn’t being used by the system for animations or notifications, and if that sounds like you, then a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called DynamicNotLand by iOS developer Nathan (@dedbeddedbed) may be of some interest to you.
Nathan first teased the DynamicNotLand jailbreak tweak in a post shared to 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) this week, and as you can see in the photograph, it merely activates the pixels between the two components of the TrueDepth camera system on the iPhone 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max so that you see more of your image when the Dynamic Island region of your display isn’t being used for animations and notifications.
In the case of activating those pixels, you’ll be able to see the space between the front-facing camera and the infrared camera/dot projector system. The appearance of this design may remind you a little bit more of the hole punch-like front-facing camera system on some Android handsets, an aesthetic that Apple clearly chose to avoid when conjoining the two elements with blacked out OLED pixels.
While there isn’t really a benefit to doing this, it does come down to aesthetic preferences; it doesn’t impact Face ID or Dynamic Island functionality in any way. So this is something you’ll need to weigh for yourself. We should also note that the tweak doesn’t work on notched handsets, as there aren’t any OLED pixels in the notch on those devices.
Since the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are the only two jailbreakable Dynamic Island-equipped handsets, these are therefore the only devices that users can run this tweak on. Should a jailbreak ever come to newer handsets, we see no reason as to why this tweak couldn’t be made to work with those devices as well.
If you’re interested in giving the new DynamicNotLand jailbreak tweak a try, then you can download a copy for free from Nathan’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken installations of iOS 16 on the iPhone 14 Pro & 14 Pro Max handsets only.
Not using Nathan’s repository yet? No problem. Here’s the URL so that you can add it to your package manager app right now:
